The Cleveland Cavaliers have fired their head coach David Blatt today and replaced him with rookie coach Tyron Lue. The decision has sent shock waves around the basketball world as the Cavaliers are the number one seeds in the Eastern Conference of the NBA and have respectable record of 30-11. Cleveland has not won the NBA title for half a century. The General Manager, David Griffin was quick to stress that the decision to fire Blatt was solely his and had nothing to do with their star player LeBron James.
Although they have a decent record their three losses in high profile games, particularly the 34 point blowout against the Golden State Warriors last Monday may have played a big part in Blatt losing his job. Lue signed a three-year deal on a salary worth over $9.5million. His first game in charge will be today’s primetime game against the Chicago Bulls.
